With but a few cuts and a little adhesive, these rock-friendly electrofumblers combine rhythmictricity, stubborn samples, toothed waveforms and grandiose harmonies into outstandingly beautiful one-of-a-kind pop music. Space is its home is your heart. Recorded as live as possible in August 2004, »auf hören« does not know electronic sterility and aseptic MIDI-nonsense. In case of doubt Ampl:tude favor being Josh Baskin on the giant-sized piano over being imitation Kraftwerk with imitation laptops. From their space-trips, they rather bring their sweethearts flowers than Teflon™. And then they write these songs, songs for hearts and legs, for laser food fights and for the highway police. Handicrafts meet dance music. Four-to-the-floor meets the never ending moment. And finally, the automobile gets wings and starts to fly. Conrad, Phil and the brothers Ruthenberg create dance music for good people. »auf hören« is too delicate for dull clubs, too friendly for hipster mannerisms, too playful for fascists. In every corner, flickering joy, friendly clatter and beautiful moments lurk. Following a tragic and painful loss and an insecure search for directions, Ampl:tude have arrived somewhere nice. They may or may not have found themselves, but they definitely discovered an interesting, intriguing, even pretty damn wicked place where there is much to try out and more to be discovered.
