The three-piece Mor∂ingjarnir (lit. The Murderers) follow up their debut with this year’s finest ruffneck of a punk record. 14 catchy tunes decorate their first record for the new indie label kimi records, and it is safe to say that Áfram Ísland! (e. Go Iceland!) has everything it needs to become a classic. The power possessed by the Murderers is second to none and it sounds fantastic. The sloppy punk that Atli, Haukur and Helgi produce has never before been so attractive.
Composed mostly of fast and simple three-to-four chord songs with catchy melodies and infecting lyrics, Go Iceland! squirts influence from diverse classic punk groups, such as The Dead Kennedys and local heroes Fræbbblarnir. Some of the songs are quite heavy, as for instance Drullufullur and Aldrei aftur stu∂. The band, however, offers all flavours and the complete spectrum of punk is on display, nicely wrapped in delicious dark humour. Airwaves is a sing-along about the infamous Iceland Airwaves festival and Hvítt rusl is about white trash reproducting. In Eiturlyfjafíklar, junkies and drug-addicts get the right treatment and Ekki í dag tells the story of people who just cannot get things done. ˝ekki ˇig ekki contains a mysterious love confession, never seen before in the history of icelandic rock music.
An old cliché goes that in order to enjoy punk and music you have to turn up the volume. This album can be enjoyed regardless of whether you put your stereo up or down. The results are the same. Quite simply, this is a saucy but hard, sweaty but sharp record. A real killer.
