Not a restart, not a sudden denial of electronic music. The time was just right to get out the guitars again. The most obvious change is indeed Christian's focus on his guitar-playing. "Real Ghosts" is a real rocker. Distorted walls of guitars, head-nodding beats and the deepest, fatest basslines make the album a completely differnt story, open up a complete new world.

There's an intuitive, slowly considered aesthetic here that echoes the patches, plug-ins and modules that dominate Tejada's electronic constructions - maybe the music starts with a whir or with a bit-crushed malfunction, or maybe the changes and transitions are made with the help of errant digital devices and tricks learnt for an entirely different purpose. Or maybe, when it's been a particularly hectic week, all we get to hear are the sounds made by a gently strummed guitar and the dusty sweep of the drums. Whatever the mood, this album chronicles those moments withdrawn from the every day, just two musicians making music they love, taking their time.

The tools of construction are almost irrelevant here - although Martin manages to weave samples and live instruments in a manner that's almost impossible to fathom: the recording of a string trio, a harp orchestra, a symphony in rehearsal - all pieced and unraveled alongside his own played instruments.

A time when we wanted to crawl into our speakers, just to be sure that we would not miss anything, to be sure that the music was indeed music and not a private conversation of whispered ideas, thoughts and advice.
The songs on "Let Your Heart Draw A Line" are the most intimate moments Andrew and Craig have been sharing with their listeners so far. Deep and moving songwriting at its best.
Each aspect of this album was treated with painstaking attention to detail, from the multi-layered construction of insturuments, melodies and glitch down to the everlasting backsleeve image of the boys peering out at us from a bushy tree - at times it seemed the the record would never be finished.

Away from the TV adverts, short films, and documentary soundtracks that are the unquestioned domain of new music these days, "Tangled Wool" is an album that transcends fad or fashion. An enduring collection of songs for late nights and reflective moments that has been constructed with the kind of feel for mood and composition that has rarely been displayed with such maverick skill. It's there to be discovered, slowly unraveled, just remember to handle with care.

"Trabanten" is Donato's first real solo effort, an important move away from supporting other artists to focusing completely on his own ideas and visions. Donato, for whom Hendrix's "Electric Ladyland" is as important an influence as the more recent work from musicians like Vladislav Delay, Radiohead, Mogwai or jazz and hip hop in general, allows his tracks a lot of time and space to develop. He masters the more than difficult task of combining very detailed sound design with an ability to write wonderful, deep, intense songs. Doing so, he is one of few tellers of digital stories. The CD version of the album contains two short films by Anita Leib, especially designed for this release.

Background
Originally from Heidelberg Germany, David Moufang (aka Move D) spent his childhood listening to the likes of Kraftwerk and Pink Floyd - yet rather than credit these auteurs with the inspiration behind his work, Moufang pinpoints another factor as the core influence to his musical gestation; space. Having been profoundly affected by a trip to the cinema to see '2001: A Space Odyssey', Moufang spent his childhood obsessed with the cosmos - and when the desire to make music eventually took over it's little wonder that the results incorporated such strong elements of the ethereal and otherworldly. Schooled in classical percussion and with a keen talent for jazz guitar, Moufang was introduced to techno in 1989 by a friend and rapidly began to devour output from 808 State, Nexus 21 and Detroit's finest - finally releasing his first record alongside Jonas Grossmann as Deep Space Network. By the time his first solo work crept out as part of a Source Records compilation ('Homeworks') in 1993, Moufang had already displayed a loose-limbed approach to techno that sent the foundations of Detroit spinning off into a new and laid-back orbit.

Kunststoff
Translated into English as "plastic", 'Kunststoff' is anything but production line - succeeding in sounding as genre defying now as it was when originally released at the half-time interval of the Nineties. Brought back into print by City Centre Offices for a whole new generation to discover, 'Kunststoff' is a dreamlike journey through Move D's compelling vision of an electronic vista which doesn't feel a necessity to labour each sonic progression and instead allows the music to gradually unfurl like a majestic digital tapestry. The sound of techno if viewed through a piquant heat-haze, the likes of 'Soap Bubbles' and album standout 'In/Out' are intensely textured compositions that take their beats as a flexible spine onto which all manner of sonic flourishes can be mapped. As innovative as any album of the past two decades, 'Kunststoff' is generous to the listener - refusing to insult their intelligence through easily pigeon-holed avenues, Move D instead throws up a startlingly diverse selection of music that nonetheless retains a firm cohesive thread. Best enjoyed as a whole, 'Kunststoff' revels in juxtaposing the serrated grooves of 'Nimm 2' against the kaleidoscopic synths and carbonated beats of 'Beyond The Machine' - a lullaby for the silicon hearted. Put simply, a stone cold classic.

Combining a rich musical genealogy, as well as playing in Ornament & Verbrechen Denzel + Huhn have worked on numerous soundtrack projects that fully utilise their ability to focus grand sonic gestures into intimately realised aural dissertations that don't confuse a sense of scale with a lack of tacit emotions.

Paraport
Their third release on City Centre Offices after the broken minimalism of "Filet" and monochrome soundscapes of "Time Is A Good Thing", "Paraport" continues to push their work into more complex avenues where shattered compositions are recast as lush and emotive sonic diktats. Opening through a tide of surging strings on "Kleiner Bruder", Denzel + Huhn bring the whole composition into startling clarity through a tender acoustic guitar melody that carbonates the digitalis with a warmth which is hard to catergorsie. Like a shattered mirror reflecting a band at the peak of the career, "Paraport" is able to balance the insistent electronic insects of "Targo" with an ebbing backdrop of blossoming atmospherics that is utterly beguiling and totally addictive. Avoiding the studious air of academia that can often pervade projects where such attention to detail has been applied, the likes of "Karlsruhe" and its malfunctioning cinematics, the caustic rhythmical aesthetics of "Dorian", and "Lope"'s creamy analogue bubbles all have an ease of stature which belies their creators' understanding of texture, balance and production skills. Encompassing a spectrum of styles which invites comparisons with everyone from Jan Jelinek ("Senet") and Johann Johannsson ("Kleiner Bruder"), through to Pole ("Erinnye") and Fennesz ("Dorian"), Denzel + Huhn have delivered a record that maintains a firm cohesive thread throughout without constraining the boundaries of their creativity. Grainy, opaque and beautifully detailed, “Paraport” is a record that requires no border controls.
