Mit seiner ersten Solo-House EP "Do Something" feiert der Musiker und Produzent Paul Frick 2007 einen kleinen Erfolg auf dem Berliner Label Kalk Pets. Einige Monate später bebt die technoide Soul-Tanzfläche noch mehr durch seine Miniplatte "Knock On Wood". Drei ausgefallene Klangkonstellationen präsentiert der Berliner dort mit Tracks wie "Slow Dance", der die Beine allerdings mehr beansprucht und nicht nur zum kuscheligen Paartanz animiert. Matthias Engler ist auf dem Titelstück "Knock On Wood, Babe" am Marimbaphon zu hören. Mit ihm arbeitete Paul bereits des öfteren zusammen im Bereich der experimentellen Neuen Musik. Der klassisch ausgebildete Perkussionist ist Mitgründer des Ensembles „adapter“ und spielt u.a. im „Ensemble Modern“ (das seit der Kollaboration mit Frank Zappa im Jahr 1992 auch einigen Pop-Hörern etwas sagen sollte). Fricks frühere Leidenschaft zur Popmusik bleibt demnach, durch seine eingängigen Sound-Collagen, weiterhin im Ohr haften. Im dritten Song der EP, „Steal My Heart“, verwendet Paul Frick ausschließlich „gestohlene“, von anderen Künstlern gesampelte Sounds. Crawford, einigen in Berlin als gern gehörter, eklektischer DJ bekannt, kommentiert charmant jeden neu einsetzenden Sound und verrät dabei, von wem er gesampelt ist. Dieser systematische „Soundklau“ soll als Hommage, für die bestohlenen Künstler, verstanden werden!

Paul Frick is back with another massive EP on Kalk Pets. I GotThrough is his third release for the Berlin producer on the vinyl sublabel of Karaoke Kalk and with it Frick has delivered another quality record.

The 3 track EP kicks off with title tune "I Got Through" which is a prime slice of jazzy house. Divine house beats and jazzy synth licks are interspersed with a spoken word monologue by Crawford, which succeeds in giving it that personal touch. The pace picks up on B-side opener "Shoot & Roll", a funky tune with disco leanings. And this fine EP winds to a close with "Into The Void", which is appropriately more down tempo and so provides the perfect closing number for the 12-inch.

The I Got Through EP has something for every moment: chilled house to warm up, prime time disco grooves and even a down tempo track to close with. Recently hyperactive with Brandt Brauer Frick, Paul Frick proves his versatility with a freshly inspired and directly bumping record. It is another proud addition to the Kalk Pets catalogue.
