Sindri from Sin Fang and Seabear and Örvar from Múm are good friends. They are tattoo buddies. They are football chums. They have travelled all over the world together in a tour bus. It's about time they made a book together. There is something similar about how these boys paint the world. There is a certain crudeness to their aesthetic unravellings, one could liken it to pancreas surgery performed with a spoon. And however colorful, lighthearted and festive their drawings, music or jokes are, there is always a certain self-reflexivity to what they spew. And to chart and map the reoccurring themes of the book, they have included a song. In two parts. It's a jolly romper.

This book contains 80 pages of drawings and it's covered in orange linen weave. Including a 5'' vinyl with digital download code of a collaborative song. Limited to 1000 copies.

Seabear - The Ghost That Carried Us Away ab 9,99 €

Dieses Album fällt nicht mit der Tür ins Haus. Kein lautes "Tada", keine Ausrufezeichen. "The ghost that carried us away" umschmeichelt unauffällig und hat Dich spätestens beim dritten Stück umzingelt. Zerbrechliche Hymnen von nonchalanter Selbstverständlichkeit, ausgedacht vom 24jährigen Sindri Már Sigfússon, mit Gitarren, Piano, seiner fast schüchternen und doch so präsenten Stimme. "Nature, mortality, love" sind die Themen seines Debütalbums. Selbst wer flüchtig hört, kann sie in den Tönen finden. "Do you remember how the things look when you were young."

Reykjavik mal wieder. Island, diese Insel der Herzensmusik. Und eine Violinistin, mit einem Idiom irgendwo in den Wolken: Gudbjörg Hlin Gudmundsdóttir (Violine, Gesang, Harmonica). Desweiteren Freundschaftsmusiker und Musiker-freunde, Eiki, Orn; Orvar oder Dóri. Sie spielen Flügelhorn, Slidegitarre oder Kontrabass, gehören auch zur Live-Besetzung von Sigur Rós (Eiki), sind Mitglied der großartigen Múm (Orvar), standen gemeinsam mit Benni Hemm Hemm im Studio oder auf der Bühne, dem anderen isländischen Künstler auf Morr Music. Sindri Már Sigfússon hat sie in sein kleines Studio, vor das einzige Mikrophon geladen, damit sie gemeinsam seine Fäden weiterspinnen. Er mag den Gedanken und das Gefühl von LoFi, sagt Sindri. Nur zum Aufnehmen des Schlagzeug wurden drei Mikrophone verwand. Das Ergebnis erinnert immer wieder an die reduzierten Stereoaufnahmen der 60er Jahre.

Libraries ist das unmittelbarste Versprechen, das Popmusik zu leisten vermag. Klitzeklein und riesengroß, unaufgeregt und aufregend zugleich. Ein Lied wie ein Blinzeln mitten hinein in den schönsten Sonnenaufgang, ein purzelndes Piano, ein schwingendes Schlagzeug, Melodien, Melancholie: "My little bird flew away from me". Oder hands remember, der Gesang ganz nah am Ohr, "the voice of an old friend", ein Rauschen, zwei Violinen. Später dann summer bird diamond, Vögel zwitschern zu den Akkorden eines alten Banjos, ein Glockenspiel, ein Hörspiel beinahe, chamber folk. Und schließlich seashell, eine pocket symphony, drapiert um ein hüpfendes Schlagzeug, Sufjan Stevens hätte das ganz ähnlich gemacht.

Endlich wieder erhältlich! Es geht um den Sinn und die Simplizität von Popmusik. Um nicht weniger als das. Was kaum besser beschrieben werden könnte als in einer entzerrten Coverversion jener "Teenage Kicks", den The Undertones einmal durch die ausgehenden Siebziger gepunkrockt hatten. Seabear haben daraus ein Lied mit vielen Zwischentönen gemacht, summend, sentimental, ausgelassen. Aufgenommen mit der Unbedingtheit von fünf jungen Musikern, die selbst beinahe noch Teenager sind. Mit einer Geige, die nach dem Geruch einer Sommerwiese klingt. Mit Pianoperlen. Und mit der Stimme von Sindri, die Dir anbietet, für wunderbare Momente in Deinem Ohr zu wohnen. Indie, Folk, Pop - Musik.
"Piano hands" wiederum ist während den Aufnahmen zu Seabears Debüt "the ghost that carried us away" entstanden, das ja gerade erst auf Morr Music veröffentlicht worden ist. Ein leises Stück. Und kaum zu überhören.

Seabear - We Built A Fire ab 9,99 €

Defying its humble beginnings as the lo-fi solo project of Icelandic singer/multi-instrumentalist Sindri Már Sigfússon, Seabear has morphed into a rambling experimental/indie/folk septet. Joining Sigfússon (whose unassisted musings are now released via his Sin Fang Bous moniker which just made the American Rolling Stone call him the “Icelandic Beck”) are Gudbjörg Hlin Gudmundsdottir, Ingibjörg Birgisdóttir, Halldór Ragnarsson, Örn Ingi Ágústsson, Kjartan Bragi Bjarnason and Sóley Stefánsdóttir - all working in a wide range of solo-, band- (Kimono, Skakkamanage) and visual arts-projects in their own right. For their second full length LP, We Built A Fire, all members of the band had equal input in the writing process, thereby creating Seabear's first real collective album.
While Sigfússon's unmistakable voice remains the centerpiece on We Built A Fire, the new joint approach is reflected in songs like "I build you a fire" where the whole band joins in on vocals. While retaining their signature simplistic and addictive naive indie folk ("Wooden Teeth", “Lion Face Boy”), the band have branched out stylistically to include elements of straight up indie rock ("Softship"), intense balladry ("Cold Summer") and even some country twang ("Leafmask").
There is something instantly familiar about Seabear's songs that resonates with fans and critics alike. Despite scant promotion and airplay behind their debut album release, 2007's The Ghost That Carried Us Away, their songs and animated videos were a social media hit generating millions of plays. It's a very Icelandic DIY setup - their music is recorded by the band in their basement studio with its apple carton covered walls. All artwork and videos are hand made by Sindri's partner and band mate Ingibjörg Birgisdóttir.

Seabear - Lion Face Boy / Cold Summer 4,99 €

Die erste Single von Seabear's im März erscheinendem zweiten Album "We Built A Fire". Während "Lion Face Boy" die Stärken des klassischen Seabear Indie-Folk-Songs neu aufgreift, überrascht der zweite Song "Cold Summer" mit einer intensiven und ergreifenden Ballade und einer Abkehr von dem radikal naiven Songwriting für das die Band bislang bekannt war.
Seabear entwickelte sich mit ihrem 2007er Debut-Album "The Ghost That Carried Us Away" aus einem Solo-Projekt des Sängers und Gitarristen Sindri Már Sigfússon in ein 7-köpfiges Kollektiv. Im März 2010 wird mit "We Built A Fire" das zweite Album der Isländer zusammen mit der 6-Song EP "While The Fire Dies" erscheinen.

Released in conjunction with their second longplayer 'We built a fire' (on Morr Music), 'While The Fire Dies' brings us six exclusive tracks from this band, that started as solo-project of Sindri Már Sigfússon (aka Sin Fang Bous) and meanwhile has become a creative collective of seven Icelandic musicians.
While the album showcases Seabear's wide range of styles and influences from Indierock to intense balladry, 'While The Fire Dies' focusses more on the band's folky and laid-back side. The countryesque uptempo opener 'Pocket Knife' is followed by alternate acoustic versions of the Seabear classics 'Arms' and 'Singing Arc' as well as the perfect Seabear-ballad 'Bright House'. After a short country twang interlude ('Leafmask II'), this EP ends with 'Doctor', a string-dominated elegy and a perfect epilogue to both: album and EP.
Seabear will hit the road in Spring 2010 playing the Eurosonic, By:Larm and SxSW Festivals followed by tours all over Europe, the US and Canada.
