Parenthetical Girls - abc series Z 4,99 €

Portland's premiere pop provocateurs Parenthetical Girls present two epic sides of the bizarre in "The Plague of Marcus (Prelude)" b/w "October Love Song" … vol. Z of Tomlab's storied Alphabet Series.

Originally written for The Dorothy K., Parenthetical Girls' acclaimed collaboration with experimental theater ensemble "Implied Violence". This exclusive "band" version of "The Plague of Marcus (Prelude)," marks the song's recorded debut, and finds the Girls reaching dramatic fever pitch.
Side two is a lovingly crafted tribute to Chris & Cosey's synthpop/sellout masterpiece, "October Love Song," voiced in a rare lead appearance by Parenthetical Girl Rachael Jensen.

Lille, France based trio DAT POLITICS have taken the mellow, springlike love song on a bouncy rollercoster ride. A hyperactive beat mashup has replaced the original beat, while keeping singer Khaela Maricich's sweet voice safely belted through the loops.

London's new premiere resident DJ Rory Phillips is one of the heroes of The End's Trash (now Durr) Club fame. Fresh off of remixes for Franz Ferdinand and Les Georges Leningrad, Phillips has given "Parenthesis" a more sensitive treatment, transforming the rhythm into a static, repetitive, but cool house beat.

Rounding out this single is the previously unreleased "Get Around" a frantic, dynamic gem from the "Paper Television" sessions that you shouldn't miss!

A torch singer from the depths of hell, delivering a decaying electronic blues. Khan will be previewing material from his own forthcoming album due march 2007 on Tomlab Records, both as solo performer and backed by pianist Boris Bergmann and human beatbox Mark Boombastik as the trio: "Khan Of Finland".

Strip Down is the first single from Khan's album Who Never Rests that is out on Tomlab. The B-side is Excommunication performed by Khan Of Finland.

Patrick Wolf - Wind in the Wires 13,99 €

"Wind in the Wires" is the next chapter of Patrick's story, and it leads us down to the wild ancient landscapes of the West Country to the sound of night trains, plucked pianos and gypsy strings. The album takes its name from the sound Patrick heard during an October stay in a wooden hut, perched on a cliff in Cornwall listening to the wind blow through the pylons that ran along the coastline.

Thematically this is an album about the search for personal liberty in an age of stagnancy and lack of invention. From the opening epic "The Libertine" with its driving beat and troubadour strings to the minimalist plucked piano and soprano ukulele of "The Railway House", the whole album encompasses a real sense of breaking free and is truly an original piece of work.

The sound and feel is a great step forward from his debut "Lycanthropy" and solidifies a more extended style both vocally and musically for young Patrick (now 21 years old). On this LP, he plays all instruments (bar a contribution from his father) and sings all vocals (bar a contribution from his sister on "Teignmouth") on viola, violin, baritone and soprano ukelele, piano and reed organ amongst other things. All songs are performed, produced, programmed and arranged by Wolf himself.

After much critical acclaim from "Lycanthropy", reaching no. 39 in the NME's 2003 LPs of the year, no. 41 in playlouder.com's 2003 LPs of the year and no. 39 in Logo Magazine's 2003 Lps of the year, as well as being picked as one of the acts to watch for in 2003 by The Independent, "Wind in the Wires" is likely to build even more support across the board, with a more singer/songwriter feel than his previous work.

Patrick's solo live performances have continued to develop and astound audiences around the world with tours across the US, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, and Italy. He has received many excellent reviews for his festival performances at Benicassim (Spain), Arvika (Sweden), Bad Bonn (Switzerland), London Calling (Netherlands), Domino (Belgium), and Popkomm (Germany). Tours to support this LP around the world to be announced shortly.

"Wind in the Wires" is a record that will not only mean a lot to existing Patrick Wolf fans but will without a doubt win over a whole new audience with its raw passion, full-blooded lyrics and haunting arrangements and melodies.

Dog Day - Lydia 4,79 €

Lydia' is the newest offering from Canadian art-pop outfit Dog Day. Coming in a less than two minutes, the track is a perfect taster for the band's new full length album Night Group.

Although the song takes its name from a cat, singer Seth Smith's doublespeak makes us wonder if he is instead musing about alienation, surrender, love-loss, or some other existential crisis. As for the band, they are in a frenzy, playing fast like a punk band with banged out guitars and pounding drums, but of course the rich layers of vocal and clever structuring show us that they are sophisticated and masterful.

Besides being featured on the new full length, the single is also being issued on 7 inch vinyl. Both will be offically released this spring on Germany's Tomlab Records.

NHS is probably the wildest and most DIY oriented band from Toronto. A collective of 5 people. Members of bands like The Hidden Cameras, The Barcelona Pavilion, etc. After their first lofi-anti-Hip Hop EP in 2004 they now return with a little more production. A dizzy mixture between early Beastie Boys and DHR. The local Hip Hop crowd hates them for being UNREAL. They love K-Records and Mantronix and indie-based, they`re probably the most REAL band you can imagine. Every live show is an enchanting, blood rocking disaster. Especially delivered for the spring vibe, NHS is preparing their Debut album for Tomlab for a fall 05 release. As yet titled "Young Adults Against Suicide"

Hank - abc series J 4,79 €

Hank is a group of enthusiastically amateur female vocalists and instrumentalists who swirl around a bearded Canadian guy named Cab whose singing style alternates between a sort of cockney sneer borrowed from late-70s English punk, an indie boy shout, and a country-ish baritone. Hank’s hodgepodge sonic jumble is full of wildly disparate elements - a pounding kickdrum mixing it up with jagged, disjointed guitars stabbed by buzzing bass on the next. Steadfastly unprofessional vocals act as the crazy glue that sticks everything together in a big, exuberant wad. “Spazz-pop”, dabs of early hip-hop, and the only thing you can maybe compare it directly to is the Go! Team.

The Blow - abc series K 4,79 €

The Blow from Portland, is mainly Khaela Maricich who began following a folky lo-fi songwriter tradition. Since meeting up with Jona Becholt (who`s working solo as Y.A.C.H.T and more recently became the drummer for Devendra Banhart`s band)
it has morphed into a very slick yet wimpy and charming kind of indie-R`n`B. After several EP`s and albums (incl.last year`s "Poor Aim:Love Songs" that brought the HIT of the year "Hey Boy"), The Blow is now recording for Calvin Johnson`s K Records. We`re very happy that they had time to record a few exclusive songs for the series and even more excited to hear with what they come up with!

Son - abc series O 4,79 €

SON delivers you drama like a bullet. Christopher Francis Schiel is a crooner whose voice pairs well with an elaborate glitch backing, which he builds with his junkshop arsenal of acoustic and electronic instruments. He tends to be likened to Jeff Buckley and Nick Cave and, much like the former, often covers songs performed by Nina Simone. This, his debut single release, contains a dark yet awful catchy 808-driven R&B stormer and an escapist's frenetic plea for romance and sanity. SON previously remixed Grizzly Bear and has completed another for Xiu Xiu. SON recorded the EP "Cassette" earlier this year in his bathroom on a mini cassette recorder and intends to release a lush full-length album early next year.

Dat Politics - abc series P 4,79 €

The group was formed in 1998 as a 4 piece unit based in Lille, northern France. Since the beginning Dat Politics began to opperate in their own musical genre that became over the past years a certain kind of "Hyper Pop". Mixing click-beats with glitch-melodies and sounds, but they sound very unlike most other laptop musicians. It's all about a mixture between minimalism, electro - pop- acoustic & deconstructed techno, with a very joyful and humorous touch to it.Since their release of this years album "Wow Twist" the band got even more playful and wonderful than ever. For the Tomlab Alphabet Singles Series the found the time to create two brand new and exclusive tunes.

Alig Fodder - abc series Q 4,79 €

Islands - abc series S 4,79 €

ISLANDS from Montreal, led by Robinson Crusoe-ish (sans beard) Nick Thorburn, is a rag-tag bunch from the weird side of the tracks. Their first full-length "Return To The Sea" spawned the yummy leftover (think polenta with red wine): "Dnttakemy Wingzz Away", essentially beautiful thanks to clever string arrangements and a fluffy melody. "Flesh", an energetic and unbeatable classic, predates R.T.T.S. by 6 months, and is the f irst recording Islands ever made. This is some zygote-shit right here and it's both previously unreleased (!!)

The Dead Science - abc series V 4,79 €

The "V" single, and the two songs contained therein, will be a sort of satellite of The Dead Science's next album, Villainaire, a record dealing with a very specific period of time in singer Sam Mickens' life and, more generally, in the embrace of personal nihilism and the potential psychic luxury of amorality. The A-Side, "Make Mine Marvel (Remix)" will be, in the style of R. Kelly's remix work, a completely new song, with completely new melodic and lyrical content, built on components of the original "make Mine Marvel" which will appear on Villainaire. The B-Side, "White Mane," was a song initially intended and recorded for the album, but which will be exclusively here instead. "White Mane" is, in fragmentary and impressionistic fashion, about the American film actor Robert Blake, both in his own recent life and in terms of his relationship to certain past roles.
