Artists — Stephan Mathieu

Stephan Mathieu is a self taught composer, performer and installation artist, working in the field of electroacoustic music. His sound is largely based on early instruments, environmental recordings and obsolete media, which are recorded and transformed by means of experimental microphony, re-editing techniques and dedicated software processes; it has been compared to the landscape paintings of Caspar David Friedrich, the work of Colorfield artists Mark Rothko, Barnett Newman and Ellsworth Kelly.

Since the late 1990s Stephan’s music has been released to critical acclaim on 30 vinyl records, CDs and high resolution downloads, both solo and in collaboration with Akira Rabelais, Ekkehard Ehlers, Janek Schaefer, Taylor Deupree, David Sylvian and with Robert Hampson as MAIN on..
