»Mzansi Bass«, curated by Shannen SP, hands the label’s curatorial keys to an artist with deep knowledge of South African bass music. The project traces connections between 3-step, Gqom, the darker sides of Amapiano, and Pritori rap, from Durban, Johannesburg, Cape Town, and the Eastern Cape to mutations in Brazil and the Netherlands. Rooted in Black African rave music, it celebrates DJ Lag’s legacy and a new generation of raw, minimal, trance-inducing, deeply physical electronic music.
