After several offerings on their own Editionmutation imprint, the Berlin duo Tannhäuser Sterben & das Tod, comprised of Thomas Mahmoud and Gerald Mandl, have completed their first full length Eigengift for Altin Village & Mine Records. Tannhäuser Sterben & das Tod‘s cut-ups and layering results in a diverse yet stunningly coherent album that with its compositional playfulness and focus on rhythmic, ritualistic delivery plunges into the space. We are politely shown, and then left to the aesthetic potential that is to be unfolded where there is no contradiction between vocal meditations and reggaeton guitars, field recordings and anthemic choruses: an uncannily familiar place.
